Hotlinking Protection

We understand the importance of protecting your bandwidth and preventing hotlinking. To help you safeguard your resources, we offer the option to whitelist the Referer header. Whitelisting the Referer header allows you to specify which domains are allowed to access your content directly, thus mitigating the risk of bandwidth exploitation through hotlinking.

How It Works ?

When a user accesses your content, their browser sends an HTTP Referer header indicating the URL of the page requesting the content. By whitelisting specific Referer headers, you can control which domains are permitted to access your content directly. This helps prevent unauthorized hotlinking and conserves your bandwidth resources.

Custom Domains Requirement

At the moment, whitelisting the Referer header is only available for custom domains. Custom domains refer to domains that you own and have control over. If you would like to take advantage of this feature, ensure that you have set up a custom domain for your content on PerceptPixel.

How to Enable Whitelisting for Custom Domains ?

  1. Prepare Your Custom Domain: Ensure that you have configured a custom domain at PerceptPixel for your media library. This custom domain should be associated with the content you wish to protect from hotlinking.
  2. Compile Whitelisted Domains and Referer Headers: Create a list of domains that you wish to whitelist, along with their corresponding Referer headers. These are the domains that will be granted direct access to your content. Make sure to include all necessary information to accurately identify each domain.
  3. Reach Out to Support: Once you have your list ready, simply send it to our support team at support@perceptpixel.com. Include any additional instructions or preferences you may have regarding the whitelisting process.
  4. Confirmation and Activation: Our support team will review your request promptly. Upon verification, we'll activate the whitelisting feature for the specified domains and Referer headers associated with your custom domain.

If you encounter any difficulties or have questions regarding the whitelisting process, our support team is available to assist you every step of the way. Don't hesitate to reach out to us at support@perceptpixel.com if you need clarification or further guidance.
